Your hard work sending out all those resumes has finally paid off – you have been called in for a face-to-face interview.

Now, sit back and think about the things you will need to prepare for this job interview. The better prepared you are, the higher your chances are in making a good impression and getting the job.

You can use the following tips to help you prepare for your job interview:

1. Arrive early
Never turn up for an interview late! It creates a negative impression of tardiness and shows a lack of responsibility.
2. Research the company
Research and read up all information about the company before your interview. It’s a great way to know where you would fit into the organisation. It also indicates to the employer that you really want to be a part of the company.
3. Prepare your answers
Job interviews are always stressful. The best way to reduce the stress is to prepare your answers to common interview questions ahead of time and practice them so you will not be stumped during the interview.
4. Dress for success
Projecting a positive first impression is crucial in a job interview. Turning up well groomed shows effort on your part and respect for the interviewer.
5. Market yourself
Market your skills and related experience in the field that you are applying for. This should include your strengths, your abilities and what distinguishes you from other applicants.
6. Always ask questions
Show interest in the company by asking questions at the end of the interview regarding the company’s future directions or the career advancement of the position applied for.
7. Conduct yourself
Make eye contact with your interviewer, be a good listener and focus. Don’t volunteer your personal opinions to your interviewer about any subjects unless you are asked.
8. Rapport with interviewer
Always try to establish a good rapport with your interviewer. Be professional and most importantly, BE YOURSELF!
9. Follow-up
Always send a thank-you note to the interviewer for his/ her time and consideration within 24-48 hours of the interview. Use the note to reiterate your interest and commitment for the position.
